Our team participated in many community outreach activities to help others, to learn, and to share information with others. You can read about our experiences here!
Sharing Our Project with Friends and Neighbors
Our team went around the neighborhood and let other kids test out our VR Space Kids project, while collecting data to determine whether or not they enjoyed exercising more with or without the VR.
We plan to share our VR Space Kids project at the Glenwood Branch library on February 2, 2019. We can get feedback on our idea, teach the community about the challenges of long term space travel, and share our FLL experience with others, so they might become interested in participating in FLL also.
FLL Qualifier Volunteers - December 1, 2018
Our team volunteerd to help at a qualifier event. We helped to set up the robot game. It was a lot of fun!
Sharing With A Professional - Mr. Andy
We interviewed Mr. Andy who is the Project Manager on the Parker Solar Probe Project at The Johns Hopkins APL. He told us all about his work on the heat shield, so that the probe can go very close to the sun, and then he listened to our VR Space Kids presentation and gave us feedback. You can read about Mr. Andy's work here!
FTC Skype Call - Team Almonds
Our team skyped with Team Almond who is participarting FTC and shared our project and robot design with them. It was great to practice sharing information and to learn from another team and their experience.
NASA Webinar
Our team participated in a NASA webinar called ISS: Environmental Control and Life Support Systems - Life Science. We learned a lot about how the ISS is like a small ecosystem. The presenter was John F Weis from NASA.
Field Trip
Our team had planned a tour at the Goddard Space Flight Center to learn more about living and working in space. We were very excited about this trip, but unfortunately due to the government shut down, our tour was cancelled. We look forward to rescheduling in the future if possible.
Donation & Coaching
Our team donated a robot game board to another FLL team that was starting out this year. Our coach also helped mentor three new FLL teams. They are LEGO Smarties (Team #39615), LEGO Queenz (Team # 40926), and Bits and Botz (Team #31557). We are proud of our coach and like to help other teams whenever we can!
